Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PSYCHOLOGIST AND AN ACCREDITED MENTAL HEALTH SOCIAL WORKER?

Psychologists and Accredited Mental Health Social Workers (AMHSW) are both qualified mental health professionals who provide counselleing and therapeutic support.

Accredited Mental Health Social Workers (AMHSW) have specific mental health training and are recognised providers under Medicare, NDIS< DVA and many private health insurers.

While psychologists often focus primarily on assessment and psychological treatment alone, AMHSWs take a broader, person centred and holistic approach, recognising how mental health is influenced by relationships, life experiences and social circumstances.
The most important factor is to find a practitioner who you feel comfortable with and feels like the right fit for your needs and goals.
